Complaints Process
At the Remedial Massage Therapists Society of Manitoba (RMTSMB), we are committed to maintaining high professional standards and ensuring public confidence in massage therapy services. If you have a concern or complaint about an RMTSMB member, we encourage you to follow this process so we can address it fairly and promptly. Please note: RMTSMB is an association and not a regulatory body. Serious complaints related to professional misconduct or legal matters may be referred to the future regulatory college or relevant authorities.
1. Initial Steps — Contact the Therapist Directly
Whenever possible, we encourage you to first discuss your concerns directly with your massage therapist. Many issues can be resolved through open communication and or are related to individual clinic policy.
2. Submit a Formal Complaint to RMTSMB
If you feel your concern has not been resolved or you prefer to bring it directly to RMTSMB, please submit your complaint in writing. Include:
- Your full name and contact information- we do not accept nor review anonymous complaints
- The name of the RMTSMB member involved
- A detailed description of your concern or incident (dates, times, and any supporting information)

3. Complaint Review and Acknowledgement
Once received, RMTSMB will:
- Confirm receipt of your complaint within 7-10 business days
- Review the complaint promptly and fairly
- Determine if the complaint falls under RMTSMB’s jurisdiction
4. Investigation Process
If RMTSMB proceeds with the complaint:
- The member will be notified of the complaint and given an opportunity to respond.
- RMTSMB may gather additional information or speak with witnesses as needed.
The investigation aims to be thorough but timely.
5. Resolution and Outcome
Based on the findings, RMTSMB will:
- Take appropriate action, which may include education, mediation, or other remedies.
- Inform you and the member of the outcome
Please note: RMTSMB is an association and not a regulatory body. Serious complaints related to professional misconduct or legal matters may be referred to the future regulatory college or relevant authorities.
6. Serious Complaints – Sexual or Fraudulent Behaviour
If your complaint involves sexual misconduct, abuse, or fraudulent behaviour, please contact the appropriate authorities immediately, such as:
- Local Police Service
- Manitoba Justice or Public Safety Agencies
- The future Regulatory College of Massage Therapy (when established)
RMTSMB does not investigate criminal matters but will cooperate fully with authorities as required.
